My Father past away almost 2 years ago and this is one of my most fond memories of him. I was about 8 years old and my cousin owned Caddy Lake Resort back then and my family would vacation there sometimes in the summers. This particular summer I really wanted to catch my first fish and i wanted to catch one with my Dad. We tried everyday for the entire time we were out there, we tried off the dock, in the canoe on the open water, off the motor boat in all areas it seemed at the time, in the caves which we were told we could catch a fish for sure, still nothing not even a bite. The days were filled with sun and fun and lots of fishing, but still no luck. My parents wanted to take us hiking and for icecream but from morning till night I was determined to catch that first fish for my Dad. I came up empty everytime. Our family vacation was comming to an end and we were packing up to leave but I had still not caught my fish. Determination eating away at me i decided to sneak away from everyone and try my luck one more time. I walked down to the dock and picked up my rod, i cast it into the water, stood there for a few minutes and then i herd my Dad calling me. He saw me with my line in the water and assured me that next year we would be back and I would catch my fish we had to leave so reluctantly I dragged my line in the water till it was almost resting on the sand and i felt something. It kind of tugged at my little arms and my eyes grew as big as saucers and I knew I finally caught my first fish. I yelled at my Dad that I caught one (so proudly) and my Dad said reel it in, so i fought with all my might and with anticipation and excitement I reeled in (for sure I thought was a whale) a small baby pike. I was so excited that I finally caught my first fish and with my Dad, this surely had to be the best day ever.My Dad took the fish off of my rod and we showed everyone we could and then I asked my Dad to let it go so I could catch it again the next year and that is just what he did. Looking back at some of the best times my Father and I shared this has to be one of the best.
